About this image compressor

This Image Compressor shrinks the file size of your JPEG, PNG, and WebP images using an adjustable quality slider, with a live before/after comparison so you can see exactly what you are trading away — all entirely inside your browser.

Most images carry far more data than the screen ever needs. A photo straight from a phone camera or a screenshot saved at full resolution can weigh several megabytes, which slows down web pages, bloats email attachments, and fills up storage. This tool re-encodes each image at the quality level you choose, dropping invisible detail to cut the file size dramatically. The quality slider runs from 1 to 100: somewhere between 75 and 85 is the sweet spot where most photos shrink by half or more with no visible difference on screen. You can keep each file in its original format or convert everything to JPEG or WebP, and the side-by-side thumbnails plus the exact size figures let you judge the result at a glance before downloading. How to use

Lossy compression, used for JPEG and WebP output, permanently discards fine detail the eye is unlikely to notice in exchange for much smaller files, and the quality slider controls how aggressive that trade is. Keeping PNG output is effectively lossless here, since the Canvas API ignores the quality value for PNG, so the pixels are preserved but the savings are smaller.

It depends on the image and the quality you pick. Photos with lots of detail typically shrink by 50 to 80 percent at quality 75–85 with no visible change, and lower settings shrink them further at the cost of visible artifacts. The session totals panel shows the exact bytes saved and the average ratio across your batch.

WebP usually gives the smallest files, often 25 to 35 percent below JPEG at the same visual quality, and it keeps transparency. JPEG is excellent for photos but has no transparency, while PNG stays lossless and is best reserved for screenshots, logos, and graphics with sharp edges or transparent areas.
